How to pin point your design style…

Wanting to know more about all things home decor, organisation, styling, renovations, new build tips from a pro? Then you’re in the right place!

My style blog explores what to look for when styling and shopping for your home décor, the ins and outs of undergoing exciting renovations and tips to support you throughout the daunting new build process. With so many styles to choose from, it can be difficult to narrow down which route you want to take and how to execute it, my styling blog will help you figure out what your own personal design style is.

One of my favourite design quotes by HGTV’s own Nate Berkus “Your home should tell the story of who you are, and be a collection of what you love”, this quote has stuck with me as I have navigated my own personal design style process time and time again.

And with that, this is where I come in to help you tell your story throughout your home!

First things first; take a look around your home and your existing décor and ask yourself these questions:

  • Does your homes current style reflect your personality and taste? How about the personality and taste of the other members in your household?

All too often people make do with the things they find here and there; from hand-me downs to unique gifts from loved ones (thanks Nanna for some of interesting items I have lol). Sentimentality is great, but it never truly captures who we are and often people don’t know where to start pin pointing that.

So where do we start? We start with research, research through resources.

I have set up a number of free resources available for you, to help you explore your own personal design style.

  • My Pinterest page has 11 vision boards capturing a variety of commonly used design styles.

  • A Style guide to help guide you through the important steps of finding your style and how to create your own vision board.

  • An online quiz to help you explore your style, this works best in conjunction with using the Pinterest page to further explore the style the quiz has chosen for you.

Once you’re a wealth of well researched knowledge using the free resources above, it’s time to get started!

  • Start by noting down which of the styles on the visions board instantly made your eyes light up with excitement. Or alternatively, if you’re still a little unsure, note down your top 3 styles with their pros and cons.

  • For your own quick reference, I recommend using the short questionnaire (insert link) to make note of any colours, elements and materials that you gravitate towards with your chosen design style.

I’d love to hear what design style you landed on and what made your heart sing about that style by commenting below!

We all forget the magic that you can create within your home that fills your day with just that little bit of wonder and happiness. Like the Myer ad? Remember that one from the early 2010’s? Every time I watch that ad, it just brings tears to my eyes and many emotions and memories of early childhood where every little thing would spark something in our imagination. We had to leave behind our early childhood wonders and suddenly adult (face palm - can I go back to making fairy rings please lol!). As the ad reminds us, “wonderful’s waiting, so let’s just go out and find it!”. And we can! By telling the story of who we are through the collection of items and design choices in our homes!

If you are thinking of making over a room, undergoing a reno or starting out on a new build and you just don’t know where to start when it comes to your own style and what to shop for, then I can help you.

Reach out on our contact us page or via DM now to get a customisable quote to help you source or order your chosen pieces from a selection of brands and I can pass on my trade discount to you! Saving $100’s of dollars, who doesn’t love a saving right?!
